At KinkFest!

BDSM on the Radio is proud and happy to announce that we’re at KinkFest this weekend doing an the KinkFest Audio Journal!

Actually, in case you hadn’t seen the announcement on Fetlife, we wanted to post this here yesterday, just before KinkFest started, but our hosting and website were down! Since we’re back up, here’s the full story….

“KinkFest Audio Journal” will be an opportunity for all KinkFest attendees to share their favorite KinkFest moments, preserved in the form of a shared community sound experience!

If you are attending KinkFest this weekend, your experience can be shared completely anonymous sound bytes or permanently public sound testimonials, it’s up to you… If you need anonymity but would still like to participate, we can even disguise your voice.

BDSM on the Radio will be conducting the micro interviews in a designated area from 2pm-4pm each day of KinkFest. All interviews will be saved, edited for quality, compiled, and shared on the BDSM on the Radio website here, as well as wherever KF and PLA see fit.

We look forward to hearing about all your wonderful experiences as
part of BDSM on the Radio’s ongoing mission to foster better understanding of BDSM, kink, and fetish as well as the many subcultures, lifestyles, and professions within each. For this episode, I talked to three women who attended the Hook Pull during KinkFest 2011 about their shared experience attending the event, IvyRed, The Wee Pixie, and Jeñata. As a reminder on the background of the three guests backgrounds and their bios, as it originally aired a few weeks ago…

IvyRed has been in the Portland BDSM community for two years and regularly attends events. She hates labels, but understand that that’s how the world works. If you have to ask, she would attempt to describe herself as a pansexual, polyamorous switch.

The Wee Pixie is an ardent advocate for safety in the BDSM community and has a compulsion for cleanliness. For a while she wrote a monthly health and safety column called “Hey! Don’t Put That There!” for PDX BDSM and has presented classes on safer sex that include information on everything from how long to leave the disinfectant on the St. Andrew’s cross to which toys are sterilizable to how long HIV can live outside the human body. A scientist by education and at heart, she enjoys reading jargon-filled articles about viruses and bacteria so you don’t have to. The Wee Pixie has been actively involved in BDSM since 2003 when she received her first amazing spanking at a public play party in Philadelphia, and began presenting in 2008. She lives happily in a 24/7 D/s relationship with her Sir, but plays well with others when allowed. Pixie has lead workshops on safer sex in Portland for the Portland Leather Alliance and Bad Girls.

Jeñata identifies as a masochist who likes not liking pain. For her it’s the apprehension, the desire to please-to accept and “take it”-the power exchange. At her sexual core, she is a submissive who adores intensity, eye contact, blushing, and laughter. She switches, gravitating toward needle play. She dabbles in Professional Domination and foot fetish modeling. She has been in the Portland BDSM community for 5 years, has served as secretary on the Portland Leather Alliance Board, and has volunteered at many local events. Jeñata has taught on subjects such as safer sex, fisting, and pain processing.

Pam, also known as peskygirl, has been an active member of the Portland kink community for three years. She is on the board of the Portland Leather Alliance and this year’s KinkFest Director. She discovered she was kinky at an early age, but didn’t really begin to explore kink until she met her life-long partner over 30 years ago. Although bondage is her first love, she was pleasantly surprised to find she’s a fairly heavy masochist who enjoys being on the wrong end of paddles, whips, and canes.

This episode will be focusing on talking to female-identified members of the BDSM Community that host in their own spaces.

Ms Stephanie is co-owner/operator along with her partner of 13 years of Twisted Cedar Estate, a Bed and Bondage outside of Portland, Oregon. Although tantric principles form the foundation of her work as an intimacy coach and healer, Gabriella has been influenced by contemporary Western writers in areas of love, relationship, and spiritual/sexual integration, these include Erich Fromm, Marianne Williamson, Osho, David Deida, and Charles and Caroline Muir. As a rare (for the West) second generation tantrika she was indoctrinated in the tantric arts at a young age; that and a brief time as a courtesan, set a strong foundation for what was to follow. I have to confess that this was a re-recorded version of the 5th episode, Aural Courtesans. The original episode, recorded live, was lost due to user error. Silver lining? Another edited and uploaded episode of BDSM on the Radio, this one later in the week because I was busy and because Audacity crashed once and I hadn’t saved edits recently. Ouch! I am thinking that, for the fifth episode, editing should get way easier, I should have the new microphone working, which has an omni-directional setting! No more passing the mic around for us. Though you can still feel free to buy us more microphones, headphones, or even an on-air mixing board! I was told that the reason the second mic at the station doesn’t work is because of old wiring in the on-air mixing board which needs to be fixed. Anyways, if you don’t like waiting for the episodes, however, you should just tune in when we air live on PRA, Sundays from  2pm to 4pm (PST).

What does it mean to be a submissive woman? This episode’s title comes from a Henry Miller quote, “True strength lies in submission which permits one to dedicate his life, through devotion, to something beyond himself.”

Some of the questions I plan to address include: How did you discover you identified as submissive? How does your submissive nature or fantasies manifest themselves? What challenges do you feel you face within the BDSM and kink community that are unique to your role as a submissive woman? What is the difference between submission and bottoming to you?

My confirmed guest for this episode will be PowerDwarf and h_Edenist.

PowerDwarf identifies as a submissive woman, works as an acupuncturist, is an active member of the Portland kink community and has lead workshops on therapeutic bodywork techniques, BDSM 101, BDSM 202, BDSM 303, and knitting.

h_Edenist has been an active member of the Portland kink community for 2 years, but self-identifies as someone who has had a “lifelong” awareness of and interest in various aspects of the BDSM lifestyle. She holds a PhD in Psychology and Social Behavior.

The second episode was pretty amazing. I would say, equally amazing as the first. To remind you, I had The Wee Pixie and Jeñata on to talk all about safety.

We went into both physical and emotional safety in scenes, sex and relationships. Do you know how to make sure your equipment and toys are sterile or disinfected? Do you know about the Safe Call Network? What questions do you ask someone before you play or have sex with them? Or even make out? How might you be putting yourself at risk and how can you better access risk? Do you go nonverbal during some scenes and are you letting your partner know?

Well, listen to this episode and hear what we think. Also, please excuse the sound for Pixie and Jen for the first 10 minutes or so, I tried to up the levels in editting, but we didn’t realize that their mic was not working after all until about 10 minutes in.

For reference, we also talked about the wealth of information available at http://www.cdc.gov/ to help you understand your risks for exposure to viruses and bacteria.

What makes a scene safe?

Some of the questions that I will be addressing on the show include: How do you keep yourself physically safe? How do you keep yourself emotionally safe? Let’s talk about safe sex and safe scenes, what do they mean to you? What inspires you to have the standards for safety that you do? How many workshops have you attended on safety in the scene and how many have you lead?

The Wee Pixie is an ardent advocate for safety in the BDSM community and has a compulsion for cleanliness. For a while she wrote a monthly health and safety column called “Hey! Don’t Put That There!” for PDX BDSM and has presented classes on safer sex that include information on everything from how long to leave the disinfectant on the St. Andrew’s cross to which toys are sterilizable to how long HIV can live outside the human body. A scientist by education and at heart, she enjoys reading jargon-filled articles about viruses and bacteria so you don’t have to. The Wee Pixie has been actively involved in BDSM since 2003 when she received her first amazing spanking at a public play party in Philadelphia, and began presenting in 2008. She lives happily in a 24/7 D/s relationship with her Sir, but plays well with others when allowed. Pixie has lead workshops on safer sex in Portland for the PLA and Bad Girls.

Jeñata identifies as a masochist who likes not liking pain. For her it’s the apprehension, the desire to please-to accept and “take it”-the power exchange. At her sexual core, she is a submissive who adores intensity, eye contact, blushing, and laughter. She switches, gravitating toward needle play. She dabbles in Professional Domination and foot fetish modeling. She has been in the Portland BDSM community for 5 years, has served as secretary on the Portland Leather Alliance Board, and has volunteered at many local events. Jeñata has taught on subjects such as safer sex, fisting, and pain processing.

What a great first episode! The first episode of BDSM on the Radio aired live on PRA yesterday, with My two lovely guests, Chaps and LaFreakyFemme.

Did you miss it? Well, not to worry, you can download and listen to the entire episode, in Mp3 format, or stream is right here!

I have to say, Chaps and Femme were wonderful guests. I felt we could have gone another two hours, easily. They were also really great about the fact that the station’s second microphone was broken, so we had to share one mic between the three of us! This also meant that editing the episode took a lot longer than it should have, as there were so many parts that the ladies were more quiet than I as I wasn’t always putting the mic in front of their mouths as quickly and there were background comments that I had to work really hard to dig out of the whole audio file.

Anyway, the three of us manage to talk about a wide range of topics from polyamory and munches to consent and age play. We also laughed a lot. Give it a listen and enjoy!
